Connect Amazon Lex to Genesys Digital Channels
Deploy Amazon Lex V2 bots on Genesys web chat, SMS, WhatsApp, and Messenger via Digital Bot Connector v2. ContextQue manages IAM authentication, streaming sessions, and Bedrock LLM integration.
The Challenge: AWS Complexity Meets Voice-Only Integration
Genesys offers a native Amazon Lex integration, but like most built-in bot connectors, it is designed for voice and IVR flows via Architect. If your Lex bot needs to handle web chat, SMS, WhatsApp, or Messenger conversations, the native integration does not support that.
On top of that, Amazon Lex V1 was deprecated in September 2025. All deployments must now use Lex V2, which has a different API surface, new streaming capabilities, and more complex IAM requirements.
Building the middleware yourself means dealing with cross-account IAM roles, STS credential rotation, Lex V2 session management, and DBC v2 protocol translation--all before you write a single line of bot logic.
What you need to build yourself:
- DBC v2 webhook endpoint with session lifecycle management
- AWS IAM role assumption and STS credential rotation
- Lex V2 RecognizeText / RecognizeUtterance API integration
- Streaming conversation support and response buffering
- Rich media and response card translation per channel
- Rate limit handling (60,000 bot invocations/min org limit)
How ContextQue Solves It
ContextQue provides a pre-built adapter between Genesys Digital Bot Connector v2 and the Amazon Lex V2 API. You provide your IAM role ARN and Lex bot configuration, and ContextQue handles authentication, session management, and message translation.
IAM Authentication Handled
ContextQue manages cross-account IAM role assumption, STS temporary credentials, and automatic credential rotation. You set up the IAM role once and never think about it again.
Lex V2 Native Support
Built for Lex V2 from the ground up. No legacy V1 compatibility layers. Supports the full V2 API including streaming conversations and continuous conversation mode.
Bedrock LLM Integration
Amazon Lex V2 can invoke Bedrock foundation models (Claude, Titan, Llama) for generative responses. ContextQue supports the extended timeouts these LLM calls require.
Multi-Turn Conversations
Full support for Lex V2 multi-turn dialog, slot elicitation, and confirmation prompts. Session attributes are preserved across turns within DBC v2 sessions.
